April showers and windshield wipers

April showers certainly are active in Greensboro this Spring. Rain is blamed for thousands of accidents yearly. Before you head back on the road for your commute or carpool check out these tips for driving in the rain. Do your windows always fog up in the rain? Want to fix that? How about windshield wiper blades streaking across your windshield? Read on fellow traveler...

•Defog your windows. Rain will quickly cause your windshield to fog up. Switch on both front and rear defrosters and make sure the air conditioning is turned on. Most cars' climate control systems will automatically engage the A/C when the windshield defrost function is selected.

•Stay on top of your car's condition. Its wiper blades, brakes, tire pressures, tire tread depth and defroster operation should be checked regularly so that you'll be ready to deal. If you have any questions, swing by and let us check out your vehicle at no charge.

•Have an emergency kit in your vehicle at all times. We have them at our parts counter. Drop by anytime and take your pick.

In the movies, rainy days are spent hanging out at the local coffeehouse or holed up at home, petting the dog by the fire. In our world, you probably still have to go to work and run a boatload (no pun intended) of errands instead. Taking a few precautions will keep you from ending up sopping wet on the shoulder of the freeway, waiting for a tow truck.

The Effect of Rising Gas Prices on Car Shopping in Greensboro, NC

With rising gas prices, people from Greensboro and surrounding areas are asking us what are Toyota's most fuel efficient vehicles?

The short answer is Toyota Prius, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, and Toyota Camry Hybrid. Not to be overlooked are the gas models Toyota Yaris, Toyota Corolla and Toyota Matrix. We like to do our research, as do most of our customers, so we added a Vehicle Comparison Tool to our website to make comparing several different brands of fuel efficient vehicles a snap.

In addition to our new Toyota gas sipping vehicles we stock plenty of used cars that won't leave you broke at the pump. Here is a quick link to view used hybrids that are on our Greensboro used car lot now.

We have been conveniently located here in Greensboro since the 1960's. We are a less than an hour drive to Burlington, Durham, Chapel Hill, Winston Salem and High Point.

Driving on Black Ice in Greensboro

We may be headed for warmer temperatures for the next few days but Old Man Winter is sure to breathe some blistery conditions on Greensboro again during January, February and March.

If you have to be out driving in hazardous conditions here are some tips from the NC Highway Patrol.

-Reduce your speed. Driving at the regular speed limit will reduce your ability to control the car if you begin to slide.
-Leave plenty of room between you and other vehicles.
-Bridges and overpasses accumulate ice first. Approach them with extreme caution and do not apply your brakes while on the bridge.
-If you do begin to slide, take your foot off the gas and turn the steering wheel in the direction of the slide. Do not apply the brakes, as that will cause further loss of control of the car.

At Rice Toyota we will check your brakes, tires, antifreeze, and battery to make sure you don't get stranded in freezing weather. Drop by and see us anytime at 2630 Battleground Avenue for a complimentary winter check up.

If you happen to be in one of the hundreds of traffic accidents that occur during icy winter weather, we can fix your car in record time at Rice Collision Center. We also have a fleet of rental cars to get you through the repair process.
